Daily Itinerary
Arrive in Glasgow, Scotland
Make your own way to Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, sitting at the mouth of the River Clyde in the west of the country. Glasgow is not only Scotland's largest city and biggest port, but also the UK's third-largest city.
Tonight you'll stay at a hotel in central Glasgow, surrounded by restaurants and pubs — a great place to get a feel for the city. In the evening we'll head together to an authentic century-old pub for a welcome dinner, where your guide will walk you through the trip plan and things to know.
Glasgow – Ben Lomond
After breakfast, walk from the hotel to the train station and take the train to Milngavie, the official start of the West Highland Way. After photos at the iconic starting arch, take a bus to Loch Lomond.
In the afternoon, walk along the shore of Scotland's largest loch, Loch Lomond — an easy, pleasant opening stretch. After the walk, arrive at Loch Lomond's harbor and check into a lochside hotel for the night.
Inversnaid – Tyndrum
Today the trekking rhythm truly begins. After breakfast, take a ferry back to Inversnaid, then continue along the loch for about 3 hours to Inverarnan for lunch. From here, you're genuinely entering the Highland interior — the mountains grow bolder, the terrain opens up.
In the afternoon, continue about 3 hours through a valley to the small village of Tyndrum, where you'll rest for the night.
Tyndrum – Glencoe
In the morning, take a scenic train through picturesque highland terrain to Bridge of Orchy, where the day's trek begins. Climb a mountain pass, and the view suddenly opens onto a vaster, wilder highland world.
In the afternoon, continue across the famous Rannoch Moor — a vast wetland wilderness regarded as the most untouched, most "Highland" stretch of the trail. Wide open, desolate views mark this as one of the West Highland Way's signature landscapes. In the evening, arrive in the Glencoe area for tonight's stay.
Glencoe – Kinlochleven
After breakfast, tackle today's highlight — the Devil's Staircase. It's the steepest climb of the whole trip, taking around 45 minutes, but the view from the top is spectacular, with a chance to spot Ben Nevis, the UK's highest peak, in the distance.
From there, descend along mountain paths to a small seaside town surrounded by mountains and water. You should arrive in the early afternoon with time to rest.
Kinlochleven – Fort William
Today is the longest day of the trip — and the most ceremonial finish.
Setting out from Kinlochleven in the early morning, climb through a stretch of forest before entering a classic Highland "hanging valley," following the valley for the rest of the day through wide, pristine scenery — one of the trip's most representative Highland experiences.
In the afternoon, descend gradually toward Fort William, arriving at the town center to officially complete your West Highland Way trek! Overnight in Fort William, with a farewell dinner and a quiet Highland evening to enjoy.
Departure Day
After breakfast, the trip officially concludes. Spend the rest of your day as you like, including:
- Take the train back to Glasgow (approx. 4 hours, with beautiful scenery along the way)
- Challenge yourself on Ben Nevis, the UK's highest peak — modest in elevation but a 1,300m+ climb from sea level, requiring good fitness
- Visit Loch Ness in search of the legendary monster
- Ride the Jacobite steam train — the real-life inspiration for the Hogwarts Express in Harry Potter — to Mallaig (book well in advance)
